What Are Positive Affirmations? (Plus 5 Unique Ways To Use Them!)

list-of-positive-affirmations

Whether we speak them out loud, repeat them silently in our mind, or write them in our journal, affirmations are POWERFUL.

I am a firm believer that how we speak to ourselves matters. That words have power. That positive thoughts create positive actions, which, in turn, produces positive outcomes. Simply put: self-talk matters.  Using our words with intention can *instantly* shift our mood, confidence, and energy — so it’s important to consider how and when to implement them into your life.

In this blog post, I’ve outlined five ways to add the *spice* of some positive affirmations into your day-to-day. This is different for everyone, so choose your own adventure, m’friend! You can try them all, you may be drawn to a couple, or maybe just one of them will stick out. This is an opportunity to try a few things and find what works for you. So, without further ado… [drum roll plzzzz] …

Here are five unique ways to utilize positive affirmations in your life.

#1 Write them out

Grab your planner or journal and your favorite pen and take a moment to physically write down an affirmation 3-5 times in a row. I love this method because it is SO tangible + grounding, and I find that writing down positive thoughts a few times over and over creates such a deep connection to the words. “Today, I will choose peace. Today, I will choose peace. Today, I will choose peace….” This is a POWERFUL way to use affirmations, so grab a mug of your fave tea, toss on a playlist, and give yourself a little love!

#2 Repeat them silently

The best thing about this method is that you can do it anytime, anywhere, because no one will know you’re doing it. ;) Simply choose an affirmation and repeat it to yourself over and over again in your mind. To make this even more powerful, you can choose a two phrase affirmation and time it with your breath. Inhale and think “I offer something unique,” then exhale and think “the world needs what I have to offer.” In, out, repeat. Mmmmmmmmm.

#3 Use your phone as a reminder

One of my favorite subtle ways to incorporate positivity into my life is to use my phone. Whether it’s choosing an inspirational wallpaper (follow me on Pinterest to see what’s been inspiring me lately!) or setting reminders to pop up throughout the day, I love using my phone as a source of empowerment + light in my life.

#4 Say them out loud

While you maaaaaaaaybe can’t use this quite as often as the silent affirmation method, I think this is one of the most powerful ways to use affirmations in your life. Speaking words of truth out loud gives extra power and *oomph* to any words you’re really proclaiming and stating boldly. You could do this when you wake up, when you’re looking in the mirror, on your lunch break, before an interview...

Use this method anytime you need extra power + confidence and to just truly feel the WEIGHT of the words. Speaking light over ourselves out loud really does shift how we show up for the world.

#5 Surround yourself with reminders

Whether it’s writing on your mirror with a dry erase marker, sticking post-it notes around your room, or finding a laptop sticker of your favorite affirmation, put those words somewhere you’ll see them *every* day. This can be so powerful because it allows you to write words that are relevant to you in this season, and seeing them every day will remind you to read them and truly let them soak in. Ahhhhhhhhhhh.

I often share positive mantras on my instagram :) Follow along!

14 days worth of positive affirmations

By taking a moment each day for positive affirmations, we create an opportunity for self-growth, reflection, empowerment, manifestation, annnnnnd, ultimately, a mini reminder to show up as our best selves.

To get you started, I’ve written out two weeks of positive affirmations to get you started. Try one (or all!) of the above methods to add some more positivity to your life over the next couple of weeks!

14 DAYS OF SAMPLE POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS:

  • I offer something unique. The world needs what I have to offer.

  • Today, I will remember to pause and to rest. I WILL find moments to slow down. To let go. To nourish my soul.

  • I can (and will) release what no longer serves me.

  • I will relax and trust the unknown—everything is aligning in my favor.

  • I will get clear on what I want. I release doubt, hesitation, and scarcity. I trust that I am abundant and that what I desire is coming to me.

  • I am allowed to ask for what I want, what I desire, and what I need. That doesn’t mean I will get it instantly, but it does mean that I am making my desires known and proclaiming my truth.

  • The direction in which I am moving is more important than the speed. I will be consistent. I will be intentional. I will keep moving forward.

  • I am diligent. I am committed. I am ready.

  • Today, I will observe my thoughts and redirect negative moments into stillness, gratitude, and a positive focus.

  •  I abundantly celebrate and compliment the good things in others... and in myself.

  •  In this moment, I choose to shift my mindset to trust and peace. I release all worries that burden me.

  •  Even when my progress feels slow, I AM creating the life of my dreams.

  • I breathe in confidence, I breathe out doubt.
I breathe in peace, I breathe out worry.
I breathe in clarity, I breathe out hesitations.

  • I am ready to be intentional with the people that surround me. I am attracting positive, authentic, and quality relationships into my life.

in a nutshell…

Even after these 14 days are over, I urge you to continue this little daily habit. To find at least one moment each day to shift your energy. To prioritize rest. To curate a physical, mental, and energetic space that uplifts you. To make the time for self-care. And, ultimately, to immerse yourself in small decisions of joy, abundance, and gratitude throughout each day. It is from these small decisions where our whole experience can shift. ✨

Talk to yourself with love, grace, and empowerment. Harness the power of words for good. And take a few minutes (like right now, cough cough) to close your eyes, drop your shoulders, take a few deep breaths, and repeat after me…

“In this moment, I invite peace to cover over me. I am seen. I am loved. I am guided.”
