A [Very Random] List of Lessons & Mindset Shifts That Have Changed👏🏼 My👏🏼 Life👏🏼

This one is short ‘n’ sweet ‘n’ to the point.

I’m not a wise old guru or anything (more like your average 28-year-old girl living the Midwest), buuuuuut there have been some aha! moments I’ve had in this life of mine.

Below is a word vomit list of “life rules” that came to me when recently on a flight. I jotted them down in the notes app of my phone, clicked copy and paste, and BOOM, here they are!

  • Are they wise? I’ll let you be the judge of that. (But the answer is no)

  • Are they ground-breaking? Not really.

  • Are they true for everyone? Absolutely not.

  • But are these the guiding principles that have *truly* enhanced my life? You bet.

a list of random life rules to live by:

  • It doesn’t have to “make sense” to other people if it feels right for YOU.

  • ASK for what you want! Send that email, pitch that idea, have that conversation — if you don’t ask, the answer will always be no!

  • There is no “one right way” to anything — nutrition, exercise, parenting, careers, etc. Everyone’s paths (and unique needs!) are different. Embrace YOURS.

  • Being properly hydrated is a major life cheat code.

  • It’s OK to be playful & goofy & excited about things (yes, even as an “adult”!!!!!).

  • Learning the different phases of your menstrual cycle is one of the most empowering things you can do as a woman.

  • Small, imperfect, CONSISTENT action always beats waiting for the “right time.”

  • Who you marry is prob THEE most important decision you’ll ever make — it’s the person that impacts nearly *every* other area of your life. (I love you, Adam Eskuri😘)

  • You can do anything… but not *everything*.

  • You’re not supposed to feel constantly hungry & be counting down the moments until your next snack (who knew?!🥲🙃). When I started eating to FUEL myself, my whole world shifted.

  • Time in nature may not fix everything, but it sure does help a whole heck of a lot.

  • The window seat is the best seat. That’s all.

  • Just my opinion — but in 50 years, I think we will look at the chemicals, toxins, & pesticides in our products, foods, crops, etc. with the lens of how we look at smoking now. Kind of a hindsight 20/20 “what were we thinking?!” kind of thing.

  • That said, while I think it’s great to be INTENTIONAL with the foods you eat & products you use…being OBSESSIVE about the ingredients, purity, etc. isn’t healthy either.

  • Positivity is not always synonymous with naïveté.

  • TRUE time freedom is often is the result of a bit of structure.

  • Send a “just because” piece of snail mail to someone you love at least once per month.

  • Financial security is sooo important to an abundant life! If possible, save a chunk of each paycheck. Avoid debt as much as you can. Be intentional with your money! Remember that just because you *can* buy something doesn’t always mean you *should*.

  • Move yo’ body! It doesn’t have to “perfect” or 2 hours long — just find whatever style of exercise works for *you*. A lil intentional movement does WONDERS for body, mind, and souuuuuul.

  • Spend time in stillness every day — even if it’s just a few minutes. Meditate, pray, breathe....

  • Call your grandparents. Text your mom good morning. Send a “this reminded me of you” photo to your friends. Stay in touch with the people you treasure!!!

  • Buy a planner and *actually* use it.

  • If you like a stranger’s shirt/smile/demeanor, TELL THEM. :)

  • Journal every stinkin’ day. Even if it’s one little sentence. Life is too important to not document.

  • Fuel. Your. Body! Avoid chemicals. Enjoy your veggies. Eat mindfully. Allllll the good stuff!

  • BUT if you’re in the mood for a burger, order a damn burger. No exceptions.

  • Get yourself outside every. day. Even if it’s cold. Even if you don’t want to. Even if it’s “just” a 5-minute walk around the block. Even if it’s “only” sipping your coffee on the porch. You’ll ALWAYS feel more alive after.

  • Meditating every day (even 2 minutes!) is game changing.

  • Your gut instinct is usually right. Anxious thoughts are usually wrong. Learn to distinguish between the two.

  • Only you can be you. And, like, yes— I know that’s basic & cliche. But REALLY internalize it. No 👏🏼 one 👏🏼 can do what you do in the specific way that YOU do it. Own your magic, friend!

that’s a wrap

This one was short ‘n’ sweet — but hopefully packed a punch. ;)

I’m curious — which one resonated the most?

Sending love to ya, friend! (Like, really.)
